So, you want to start but don’t know where to go from here? Here’s what I did- I found someone in my area and had private lessons. I then purchased my own pole (best day EVER) and used the wonderful internet as the source of information it is intended to be used for!!
Private lessons are tiring, and can get expensive. However they are extremely effective and get you going very quickly. Group lessons work out at being a LOT cheaper and can be great fun and help form friendships that are quite strong. There is an understanding and trust that is built in these classes that is extremely hard to explain.
Don’t be fooled by anybody telling you it will be easy. It’s down right painful!! My first lesson I got home and was walking like the hunchback of Notre dame for the next three days. After the second lesson I noticed the aches were nowhere near as bad and by the third lesson were pretty much none existent. My body changed dramatically from being a skinny little runt to an athletic build with good tone within two months.
It’s a hard road at times is this pole malarkey but trust me- it is well worth it!

Oh god, where to start?? It’s great on its own or used as a form of cross-training. Its does amazing things physically but is also mentally rewarding. It helps to relieve stress and keep the body active and sometimes all you need do is warm up and do a three minute routine- trust me it will be enough.
Physical- It’s amazing!! The strength you will gain is phenomenal and you will gain it in a short amount of time. The effects it has for weight loss are not to be ignored either. Combine it with a healthier lifestyle and you will be at your goal a LOT faster. I had a lady lose over half a stone during her first course of six weeks and she claims to not have done anything extra! Also the fact that you have to keep movements as fluid and graceful as possible means that you are improving you co-ordination immensely.
Mental- What can I say? You can be trying a move for weeks and then you suddenly get it and you’re jumping up and down going “I did it!!” The amount of self-esteem and confidence it can build up is immense. Also if you are a teacher and you know how difficult it has been for a pupil to get something and they finally do you’re jumping up and down with them! The empowerment felt on all levels is hard to beat.

The history of poledancing has a vast wealth of information already on the web but I find the most helpful has been this article:
http://www.polestars.net/default.asp?section=545&page=1491&subpage=1481
As you may already be aware PD is becoming increasingly popular as a form of exercise; and for good reason too! It is also referred to as “Pole fitness”, “Verticle Dance”. It focuses mainly on strengthening the body and helping with co-ordination. I personally find that it also brings about a great feeling of empowerment- for both those who are either being taught or teaching.
It can also be developed many different ways. You may decide to use it strictly as a form of exercise to help personal development and growth. None the less, there is still a raving market out there for people who want to use it as a career in clubs as appreciation for the finesse required is becoming more well-known. Another career possibility is that you can teach others which is extremely rewarding for both parties involved.
Anyway you want to look at it- its growing and the bang wagon isn’t full!!!

Hello one hello all,
Welcome to my first blog ever! Hope its to your taste and if you have any suggestions feel free to contact me…i don’t bite that often.
My aim for this blog…well we all know that pole dancing is becoming far more popular as a form of exercise right? So i decided to try it out once and for all and see what its all about. I’ve been doing it for about 18 months now and teach beginners and intermediates. And then i thought “Hey! I’ll catalogue it on tinterwebs so as i am learning there is the possibility of helping others learn!” Neat right?
SO, i will posting instructions of moves followed by a video or pic (either of me doing it or someone much better =D) of the detailed move. Also i will do monthly (or weekly) searches of any news on this niche so as to keep you happy campers informed.
Hope you enjoy!
Lee
